PAYLOAD

A payload carries all the on-board flight equipment such as Micro-Controller, Cameras, Sensors, Loggers, Radios, Transmitters and Beacons. It is suspended from the helium balloon by a 50 lb strength rope as per FAA guidelines. The payload's weight, balloons burst capacity and volume of helium are key factors to determine flight path, burst altitude and potential landing areas.

Our payloads are designed in 3 different shapes and dimensions to help accommodate your equipment and keep it safe upon landing. 

Grape: Ultra-light weight payload for maximum of 2 customer cameras. Made from 

Orange: Medium sized payload made from Styrofoam, designed to fit up to 4 customer cameras. 

Watermelon: Large size payload made out of wood or light-weight alloy to fit up to 4 cameras and other equipment.

Custom: Built for catering to specific shape, size and stability needs

Communication & tracking

We are licensed HAM Radio operators and use highly reliable Byonics Micro-Trak radios and Garmin -GPS for real-time tracking of the payload during flight. We use APRS technology and local VHF enabled radio receivers for ground based tracking.

You always decide where to land and trace back the launch coordinates. HabHub provides an excellent online tool for predicting flight paths, starting and landing locations. We rent helium tanks between 200 cu. ft to 500 cu.ft based on payload weigh, balloon type & desired altitude.
